Te Motu 1993

$1,800.00

The flagship wine of the estate: Te Motu is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, hand-harvested from low-yielding vines.

Tasting Notes:

Described in 1994 by top UK wine writer and judge Oz Clarke as “a magnificent monster”, Te Motu ‘93 has matured into more of a gentle but firm giant. The grapes from the 1993 vintage which made this inaugural Te Motu, were tiny, rich in sugars and blessed with huge natural phenolic extract. The wine has deep impenetrable red violet colour. The palate is unctuous and full. The tannins have softened to a fleshy texture which gives full expression of its very ripe berry fruit character and strong, spicy but restrained oak.

Critic Reviews

“The wine has dense inky, purple colour that echoes the intensity of flavour that follows. Very ripe berry fruit characters are woven tightly into strong, spicy oak so that neither dominates. The soft fleshy texture of the wine makes it deceptively approachable now although a strong backbone of ripe tannin will no doubt allow it to age gracefully for 5-10 years. An impressive first release”. -Bob Campbell MW, Nov 1994
