Library release.

The flagship wine of the estate: Te Motu is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominant blend with Merlot and Cabernet Franc, hand-harvested from low-yielding vines.

Tasting Notes: Bob Campbell MW 30 JUN 2021

A cabernet sauvignon-dominant blend with merlot and cabernet franc. Mellow, bottle-aged red with emerging beef tea and ‘forest floor’ flavours adding extra interest to dark berry, cedar, old leather and spicy oak flavours. An elegant, supple wine that is close to full maturity.

Full, very dark, deep ruby-red with black-mahogany hues at the core. This nose is full and voluminous, with refined and integrated aromas of ripe blackberry, plum and curranty aromas, harmoniously entwined with earth and savoury secondary undergrowth and dried herb nuances. This is presented with finesse, unfolding notes of pencils shavings and cedary oak. Medium-full bodied, the palate is tightly bound and very fine in expression with stylishly restrained flavours of blackberry and curranty fruit, along with earth and black ink, revealing cedar and lead pencil oak. The fruit is supported by very fine-grained tannins and structure, with balanced lacy acidity. The palate has energy and drive, carrying to a long, lingering finish with sweet fruit notes and fine textures. This is an elegant, tightly bound, fine-grained Cabernet/Merlot blend with stylish black fruit flavours. Match with roast lamb over the next 7-9+ years. A blend of approximately 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc fermented to 13.5% alc., the wine aged as components for 12 months in 25% new French oak, blended and given another 6 months in barrel. 18.5+/20 Nov 2015

Wet conditions at flowering produced a light fruit-set but also the soil moisture for good vigour throughout an otherwise excellent growing season which produced exceptionally ripe and clean fruit in all varieties.
